Find information about federal regulations, programs, guidance and contacts with respect to the Toxic Substances Control Act. TSCA enables the EPA to track industrial chemicals currently produced or imported into the United States. While many of the chemicals found on the initial inventory were “grandfathered” and thus exempt from initial hazard assessment requirements, EPA has the authority to screen chemicals and can require reporting or testing of those that may pose an environmental or human-health hazard. EPA then can control these chemicals as necessary to protect human health and the environment. TSCA also controls specific substances, such as PCBs, lead and biotechnology.
