| Short Description |
The University of Bridgeport in Connecticut has paid a $12,900 fine and will complete a $56,000 Supplemental Environmental Project to settle EPA claims that the University improperly handled and stored PCBs. According to EPA, the University failed to properly store two transformers, mark the storage area with the proper labeling, and failed to properly clean up and dispose PCB oil that spilled in the transformer vault. The University's SEP involves taking an inventory of all transformers on campus, determine the PCB content of each transformer, retrofit or dispose of all transformers with PCBs greater than or equal to 50 ppm and implement the EPA-approved PCB cleanup plan.
