| Short Description |
Individual departments at Stanford could save up to $17 per computer per year, if a program called “Big Fix” is successful. This initiative, designed to manage the testing and distribution of critical security updates to Windows PCs across campus, includes upgrading each computer with new energy efficiency/power management features that could save as much as $475,000 per year for the university in avoided energy costs. Additional student participation could increase further the annual financial savings and carbon reductions. The University has partnered with Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) in offering the power management options, and PG&E is offering a one-time rebate of $15 for each eligible computer with the feature enabled. Stanford hopes to offer a similar feature for Apple computers this summer.
