EPA granted a site-specific variance to Energy Solutions LLC in Clive, Utah for the treatment of certain P- and U-listed hazardous wastes containing radioactive contamination. This variance for the use of vacuum thermal desorption at the facility is an alternative to the use of combustion, which is the prescribed treatment for these wastes under EPA’s land disposal restriction provisions. The rule is effective June 13, 2008.
